How to: CARE FOR YOUR WIGS

How to: CARE FOR YOUR WIGS

What's so wonderful about wigs and extensions is that they are incredibly low maintenance (unlike most other things in life!) Having said that though, with just a little TLC and following these simple steps, your hairy companion will be by your side for much longer - Because we all love looking great, and saving a bit of money too, right? And if you don't, well, on your head be it...

Step 1: Gently brush your wig from ends to roots to remove any tangles, whilst being careful of the cap. The best way to do this is by holding the hair in your hand from below the cap and brushing from bottom to top. This is important because it will stop any direct pulling or tension at the roots of the wig, decreasing the amount of hair being pulled from the cap, preventing the wig from thinning. It is strongly advised to use a wig brush to do this. The bristles are smoother and softer which tease the tangles out rather than tearing into them causing damage to the fibre, pulling them from the roots and eventually causing frizzing. This should be done after each time you have worn your wig to prevent tough knotting

Step 2: Next, fill a clean sink or basin with tepid water (around 25 degrees). Add a shampoo (preferably a wig shampoo like OGX or Shea moisture) and immerse the piece. Gently run your fingers over the inside of the cap, concentrating on areas such as where the cap meets your forehead, to remove any oil and grease. Gently swirl the piece and leave to soak for 2 minutes. Then, rinse thoroughly in cold water until all of the shampoo has been removed

Step 3: Once again, refill the basin with tepid water. Put a couple of drops of conditioner in to your hands and rub together, work your hands gently through the fibres of the wig, avoiding the cap. Then, leave the piece to soak for 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly in cold water until all of the Conditioning Rinse has been removed

Step 4: Wrap your wig in a towel and gently pat out the excess water. Do not twist, ring or brush the wig whilst wet

Step 5: Gently fluff the wig and leave to dry on a wig stand.

Step 6: Style the hair as you please, ensure that you use heat protecting products.
